The Army/Navy game is one of the highlights of the Powell Council year, and this year was no exception. Here with a recap is PGK Jim Gardner:
This year's game was one of the best days for a football game. The trip took us down to sunny Baltimore, Md this past Dec. 1st. Although we had some new faces, I must say that we really did miss our beloved chaplain, Fr. Callahan, who as we all know is recovering.(Gerry has his program) The game was very one sided with Navy scoring all the points and allowing Army to score one lonely field goal. The final score was Navy 38, Army 3! Everyone that was there truly had a fantastic time, and almost everyone behaved admirably! We were very lucky to have been able to retain the incredible driving skills of Fred Grant , our beloved bus driver who is working with a new bus company, McCarney tours, ever since Harran went out of buisness.
I would be remiss if I didnt thank our GK Gerry Boettcher for allowing us the use of the fire house to do all the cooking etc. As always Gerard (Gerry's son) was a tremendous help both on and off the bus. This years flyover and parachuting into the stadium was outstanding! I appreciated the culinary magic that came from our cooks, Brian Bies, Gerry, and Joe Mastro was impeckable on the buttered rolls,as well as myself lol!! For all those cooks at the game that manned the grills. My hat's off to you for keeping up with the demand of food for all. This year's game to me was so organized in loading and unloading the bus, that it helped make the trip more memorable. (After 14 years maybe we got it right) Next year's game is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2008, in the city of Brotherly love, Bill Cosby's own, Philadelphia! There has been a rumor out that the academies may want to have the game in Texas, to try and get more recruiting for our armed forces, but nothing is definite. If anyone has any ideas or wants for future games to make some changes to better our trip please feel free to contact me here in sunny Florida.
In closing I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and A Happy New Year to all,
Fraternally yours
Capt James, PGK
