Who is Powell Council and what do they do?
"Robert W.Powell Council has been proud to be a part of St. Martha's, and Uniondale, since March 9, 1952.
Many of our members were raised in Uniondale and attended Uniondale Schools. Many members are also
longtime Uniondale residents and parishioners of St. Martha's Catholic Church. We serve the parish as
Deacons, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Choir Singers, Sextons, and Bingo Volunteers. Even our priests
are Brother Knights!
Powell Council is a busy organization. Every year we raise money for disabled citizens in New York State through our C & B chances. We co-sponsored an Adopt-A-Baby program which provided goods and clothing for unwed mothers. We've sponsored parties for the United Cerebral Palsy Center in Roosevelt, and co-sponsored St. Martha's Feast of the Guadalupe Mass. Our Light up for Christ program kicks off the Christmas season every year. We sponsor a free throw tournament annually for Uniondale's boys and girls, and in 2003 one of our boys, Edson Maitland, made the New York State finals! Every year we attend the annual Pro-Life Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, and participate in the March for Life in Washington DC. We also honor our deceased members at our Annual Memorial Mass, and sponsor a seminarian every year studying for the priesthood. We also award scholarships to deserving Uniondale High School graduates. We've marched in Uniondale's Annual Memorial Day Parade, participated in Uniondale's International Festival, and recognized outstanding scholars. We hold various dinners throughout the year for the enjoyment of the St. Martha's parish community. We also support Uniondale's American Legion Post # 1487 in their patriotic activities. We've sponsored teams in Uniondale's Little League. Many of our members proudly participate in other Uniondale organizations.
Robert W. Powell Council proudly supports St. Martha's and Uniondale, and strongly encourages our members to take part in our parish and our community."
