Here's what's happening at Robert W. Powell Council!
COUNCIL CALENDAR:
![]()
PGK William Ludewig's Testimonial
All the details are on the invitation above, and on the council's new Facebook page. You may also e-mail PGK Jerry Boettcher-but let him know before September 3rd!
Have you seen our new home? As of the beginning of November, the council now meets in St. Martha's Bethany Hall. If you grew up in Uniondale and attended St. Martha's church, you won't recognize the former church basement. It looks like a catering hall! In a way we're going back to K of C roots: remember, Fr. McGivney started the Knights of Columbus in a church basement. So, on the first Wednesday of every month, come to a meeting. And feel free to look around. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what you see!
The Summer Powellite is in the e-mail. Read all about it! And in case you missed an issue, click here!
Feast of the Guadalupe
Another of Powell Council's newest traditions continues as we assist with St. Martha's annual Feast of the Guadalupe on Sunday, December 12th.
We'll be attending Mass that evening, and then supply the repast in Bethany Hall afterwards. Come join us!
Father McGivney Guild
All Brother Knights should be supporting the cause for sainthood for our Founder, Rev. Michael J. McGivney. Membership is free (donations are accepted), and you'll get a bi-monthly newsletter updating you on the progress towards the cause for Fr. McGivney's Sainthood.
Special meeting notes
All third degree members are invited to (and officers and delegates should attend) all District Deputy and Chapter Meetings.
We have a phone number!
Jot it down and keep it for reference: (516) 481-2578. You'll hear a brief pre-recorded message on what's happening at the council. You'll also be able to leave a message.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available
The Nassau Chapter is awarding scholarships for students of Catholic High School (awarded in the Spring), Catholic Elementary School, and C.C.D., which are awarded in January. Contact Chapter Director PGK FDD Bill Murphy for more details.
Merger with Hempstead Council?
We're in talks with Hempstead Council regarding the possibility of merging both of us. We'll discuss this in length at our upcoming meetings. All council members are encouraged to attend, and to contact the council with questions and concerns.
The O.C.F.C.U. - are you a part of it?
Less than enthralled with the latest savings rates? Why not put your money with the Knights of Columbus? Powell Council is a member of the Oceanside Christophers Federal Credit Union. You'll be amazed at how much more you'll earn on savings and CDs, and how much less you'll pay in finance charges on your credit card, loan, or your mortgage.
Your money is under the watchful eye of fellow Catholics. If you're Catholic, you and your whole family can join. Give them a call at (516) 678-3481, or stop by and say hi! They're at 45 Atlantic Avenue in Oceanside (half a block west of Long Beach Road), at 3612 Merrick Road in Seaford, less than a block west of the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway, and on the web, at www.kofcfcu.org
For Traveling Catholics
On the road this Fall? Wherever you're heading to see the colors change, from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon, the nearest Catholic Church is just a phone call away at:
1-800-627-7846
or visit www.Masstimes.org
Phone prefect and E-mail lists
The Phone prefect list is now in effect. It's to keep members of Powell Council informed of wakes, meeting cancellations, or any news that can't wait for the next Powellite (and remember not all our members are online!)
GK William Ludewig is the first contact, and he'll get the ball rolling. To find out more about the phone prefect list, see PGK Ray Caluori. Ray also wants to hear from Powell Council members who wish to be callers for the prefect list.
And an E-mail directory has also been established for Powell Council members. It's another great way to keep connected with Powell Council. If you're a Powell Council member, you should be in it!! Powell Council brothers, Contact Mike Dragonetti
". . . this E-Mail is great . . . I get the news of the Council and Uniondale . . . Keep up the good work, the Council Web page is terrrific."--PGK Jim Barry
" . . . this E-mail stuff is real cool. Hopefully more guys will get on line. This E-mail stuff will make it so much easier and efficient for the leaders and members of Powell Council to stay in touch with what is going on, and on a timely basis"--Frank Majewicz
"This E-mail correspondence is an excellent idea"--PGK Hank Baumann
