Robert W. Powell Council #3488 is proud to be a member of Pope John XXIII Assembly, which upholds the values of the Fourth Degree,  Patriotism. They exemplify Patriotism in many ways, such as Decorating the graves of military personnel at Pinelawn National Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island. They're also sponsoring a Scholarship essay contest for High School students in 2002.  Their a "Fly the Flag" program, acknowledging a Brother Knight who flies the flag faithfully, is getting acclaim at the state level. Their very first honoree is Powell Council's PGK Bill Brown. Powell Council members Ed Dobkowski, Mike Caluori, and PGK Ray Caluori were also honored.

Several Powell Council members have gone all the way to the Office of Faithful Navigator: PGK & FDD (and Past Commander of the Honor Guard) William Duschenchuk, PGK & FDD Don Neidhardt, Edward Sparkowski, and PGK Winston Delpesh.

The most visible arm of the Knights of Columbus is our Honor Guard of the Fourth Degree (some of the Pope John XXIII Assembly members are shown at the very top of the page). The Honor Guard proudly represent the Knights of Columbus at countless parades, funerals of Brother Knights, and special masses, including the Annual Pro-Life Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Annual Bishop's Mass, and the Annual Mass at Our Lady of the Island Shrine in Eastport, Long Island.

Many Powell Council members have proudly served in the Honor Guard, including Guardsmen of the year PGK FN Winston Delpesh, Peter Craine, Eugene Ballweg, and PGK Mike Dragonetti. Winston serves as Executive Officer for the Guard, and was elected Faithful Navigator in May 2010. Bill Duschenchuk served as Commander of Guard 1975-1985. Powell Council urges all Fourth Degree Sir Knights to consider joining the Honor Guard.

Powell Council also encourages all Knights who haven't already done so, to advance to the Fourth Degree. Check with your Council for the assembly nearest you!

Do you fly the flag every day, or know someone who does? The Assembly wants to hear from you. They like to come to councils and give out awards for flying the flag, and several council members have won in the past. In fact their very first honoree was Bill Brown when he was Deputy Grand Knight.
