Charles J. "Charlie" Williams Grand Knight, 1952-1954 Williams was one of 18 Hempstead council members who became part of the Uniondale Formation Committee, who ultimately became Powell Council's charter members in March 1952. Williams was also a committee chairman for the fund raising drive for the "new" St. Martha's Church, to be erected on Greengrove Avenue. He was also active in St. Martha's Holy Name Society, and asked all council members to be active in Holy Name Society as well. Williams was the Council's charter Warden under Jack Hamill. In June 1952 he was elected Grand Knight, the first Powell Council Grand Knight to serve a full term. The following year, he was elected to a second term. In 1954 he was appointed District Deputy, serving two years in Powell Council's District, and a third year in a neighboring district. He passed away after a lengthy illness March 1959.
